An Angel of Music: Small Packages by Dracona Dragillin Gargoyles isn't mine but the rest are mine. Please send feedback! Hannah waited patiently as the sunset. She saw cracks forming in the stone statue in front of her. At the moment when the sun totally disappeared, the statue exploded, shedding stone chips in all directions. And in its place stood her Eric. "Good evening, sleepyhead," Hannah teased. Eric smiled. He walked over to her and embraced her. "So when are the others coming over for practice?" he asked. "I canceled it. I have news that I have to tell you. I'll tell you when we get inside." ------------------------------------------------------------------- Eric made dinner and as they both were sitting down to eat he asked, "What is this important new?" "I've been doing some investigating about gargoyles. I've been looking for any proof that there are still gargoyles out there. So far, all I've heard are rumors. Well except for that New York clan but it seems that they've disappeared off the face of the earth. I keep getting sightings but no location where they live. But I have found something else. There might be a clan in England. They are supposed to be living in some abandoned castle ruins. I thought you'd might like to meet them..." Eric sighed, "I don't know. Hannah, you have to realize that my attitudes, my behavior are more human than gargoyle. They might hate humanity and brand me as a traitor. Of worse, they won't be able to accept you as my mate. Hannah I don't want to give you up." "Eric, I never said I wanted you to leave. Meet with them and see what they're like. If it doesn't work out then we can just leave. But if it does then you'll at least have some new friends." Eric touched Hannah's face. "All right. But remember, no matter what happens, I'll always stay with you." ------------------------------------------------------------------ A few weeks later, the entire band caught a private jet to England. They drove to a village that was near the castle. Hannah went to a sort of general store to get supplies. As the clerk was getting the supplies, he was gossiping to Hannah. "Going out to explore the ruins? You won't find much. Five days ago, an odd group of people went out there. They smashed things up with they're hammers and there were a few explosions." Hannah quickly got worried. "At what time of the day did this happen." "Late morning." "Who were they?" "I think they called themselves Quarrymen." When Hannah heard this she grabbed the supplies and threw her money on the counter. Quickly she ran to the car. "Drive!" she yelled as she jumped into the car. On the way over, she told everyone the story. After she was done, Hannah looked over at Eric. His face was a tight mask of anger. Hannah put a comforting hand on his shoulder. Finally they reached the castle. It was a pile of rubble. They sifted through the ruins, finding stone body parts. After seeing half of a broken face, Hannah sat down on the ground and began to cry softly. Eric looked through the wreckage. At last he dropped a stone arm and roared. It was the loudest, most fearsome roar that any of the humans had heard. Hannah noticed a few stray tears trickling from his glowing white eyes. Eric ran off on all fours. "Where is he going?" Janelle's voice was filled with panic. "Let him go. He needs to be alone and so do I. Darryl, take Janelle home." Darryl, visibly shaken and silent, led Janelle away. Hannah sat there and sobbed. This was the worst thing she had seen. So much death. So many wasted lives. After a few minutes, Hannah noticed something. She heard a very soft crying noise. Hannah began to clear away some of the rubble. There was a trap door which Hannah promptly opened. The crying noise got louder. Hannah went down a set of stairs. At the bottom was a large room that was illuminated by a glowing green fungus that grew on the walls. Hannah gasped loudly. There was a pile of small broken statues. 'Children!' she thought, 'They murdered children!' The crying developed into a fearful wail. Hannah looked to the right and saw a small alcove. In the alcove was a small figure huddling in the corner. It was a sobbing little gargoyle girl with tan skin and red hair. Hannah knelt down and whispered to her, "Sssshhh, it's going to be ok. I won't hurt you. I wasn't the one who hurt your clan. Please little love, I can take care of you." The little gargoyle ran into her arms, clutched her tightly, and sobbed into her shoulder. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hannah stayed in the hotel in the village and took care of Anne, the little gargoyle. She was named after Anne Shirley of the Anne of Green Gables books which Hannah loved as a child. At first Anne would cling to Hannah and would refuse to even look at Janelle or Darryl. But slowly she began to brighten up and broke her silence. Eventually they found out why Anne was spared. Anne and her rookery siblings were playing hide and seek. Anne hid in the alcove as the sun rose. Hannah couldn't wait to show her to Eric but Eric still hadn't returned to her. He was still gone. Hannah didn't blame him. The sight of the ruins was still giving her nightmares. One night, Hannah heard a tap on the window. She opened it up and Eric stumbled in. He plopped down in a chair. "Hannah, I'm so sorry I..." he drifted off in mid sentence. Hannah saw the lost lonely look in his eyes and hugged him hard. "Oh Eric, it's going to be all right..." But she was interrupted. Janelle walked in with Anne. Both Anne and Eric looked at each other with shock. Hannah smiled, "Eric love, meet Anne, Our new adopted daughter. And you said we wouldn't have children." The End
