THE STORY SO FAR:  After teaming up with Nokkar to fight an intergalactic battle against hundreds of enemy aliens, the Gargoyle clan is separated.  Goliath is trapped in suspended animation with King Arthur, Griff, Macbeth and Gabriel's dead body.  They are lost in space somewhere.  Meanwhile, Nokkar is killed and Angela is teleported back to Avalon.  Hudson and Dingo are still held captive at Area 51 in Nevada for interfereing with the workers and letting Nokkar `get away`.  They are told that they will be tested and studied at the facility.  Elisa gets back to Manhattan and informs the Trio and Bronx on what has happened.  But the Trio has problems of there own:  The Quarrymen.

A roar was heard outside as the sun set behind the Manhattan skyscrapers.  She heard the chips of stone land on the floor.  Elisa Maza sat in a recliner in a room inside Castle Wyvern.  She felt horrible.  She had forced Goliath to go to Easter Island with her to help Nokkar and it was her fault that Goliath is now out in space.  It was her fault that Hudson was captured and it was her fault that Gabriel was killed.  All she could think of was...it was her fault.

Broadway stomped into the room with a straight face.  He walked over to the table and put his hand on it.  He looked around the room.  "Elisa," he said, "where's the incantation?"

Elisa looked away.

"I wrote down the incantation you gave me so that I could reach Avalon.  Angela needs me.  Where is the incantation?"

Elisa didn't say a word.

"Elisa, give it to me."  He grew angry.  He knew that she had it.  Elisa didn't want him to leave.

Elisa slowly reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper.  Without looking at Broadway, she handed it to him.

Broadway took it.  "Thank you."  Before he left the room, he bent down and kissed Elisa on the top of her head.  "Good bye, Elisa."

She was silent.

Broadway hung his head and said, "Say good bye to Cagney for me."  Then he finally left.  He walked up to one of the parapets and met Brooklyn, Lexington and Bronx.  The three of them looked at him.  All of them had sad looks on their faces.

Lexington stretched out his hand.  Broadway saw him and did the same. They shook hands and Lex said, "We'll miss you, Broadway.  Good bye."

Broadway said the same.  He shook Brooklyn's hand and said, "Good bye, Brooklyn."

"See ya, buddy.  And...take care of Angela."

"I will," Broadway said.  Then he walked over and patted Bronx on the head.  "You be a good boy while I'm gone."

Bronx just whined.  He didn't want Broadway to leave either.

Broadway walked to the edge of the parapet and looked out at the city.  "I'm gonna miss Manhattan.  But Angela needs me.  Even if Avalon sends me to the ends of the Earth, I'll find Angela."  He looked back at his rookery kin once again and said finally with a smile, "Good bye, guys.  I'll be back...sooner or later."  He then pushed off and glided across the city not to be seen again by his clan for a long while.

Later, Brooklyn walked into the room where Elisa sat.  He looked down at her and he could easily tell that she was depressed.  Brooklyn sighed and knelt down next to the chair.  "Elisa," he said, "it's not your fault."

"Yes it is."  She was choked up.

Brooklyn hesitated and said, "We'll get the clan back together.  It's only a matter of time."

"Goliath's lost in space, Angela's back on Avalon, Hudson's being held captive in the most impenetrable facility in the country and Broadway's out traveling across the world unaware of what's out there.  How do you expect to get them all back?"

Brooklyn paused.  "It'll take some time.  I don't know how right this minute but...we have to think positively."

"Yeah."  Elisa stood up and exited the room leaving Brooklyn alone.

Brooklyn, the new leader of the clan, sat on the floor and leaned up against the wall.  He shook his head and sighed.  What was he going to do now?  This wasn't a good time for him to take over the clan.

Fox played with her son Alex in his bedroom.  Alex was now a toddler.  He was walking and learning new words.  David Xanatos, the father, stood in the doorway watching them.  He had a smile on his face.

Lexington arrived and entered the room.  "Hey, Alex.  How's it goin', big guy?"  He bent down and lifted him up into his arms.  "Ugh.  You're getting too big."

Alex giggled.

Brooklyn walked by the door behind Xanatos.  He heard the Gargoyle and turned to see him walking down the hall.  "Brooklyn," Xanatos called to him.

"What do you want now, Xanatos?  I'm not in the mood."  Brooklyn stopped and turned to see Xanatos walking toward him.

Xanatos said, "I will do everything in my power to get your clan back together."

"Oh, shut up."  Brooklyn was ready to turn and leave when Xanatos spoke up again.

"I don't know about Goliath and the others, or Broadway and Angela, but I CAN try to get Hudson back."

Brooklyn looked up at him.  He asked, "And how exactly would you plan to do that?"

Xanatos said, "The Illuminati."

Brooklyn said, "Yeah, right.  I now they're able to do almost anything but Area 51 is a government installation.  There's no way that anyone is breaking in there."

"Trust me," Xanatos said with a smile.

Brooklyn didn't say a word, only stared into his eyes.

"At least let me try."

Brooklyn sighed.  Bronx walked up next to him.  Brooklyn said, "I'll have to think about it."

As Brooklyn and Bronx walked away, Xanatos said silently to himself, "Excellent."

"You're crazy!" Elisa said to Brooklyn.  He, Lex and Bronx were all standing in Elisa's apartment.

"Maybe," Brooklyn said.  "But he might be our only chance to get the clan back together.  He does have ties with the Illuminati."

"He's one of them," Lex added.

Elisa said, "I wouldn't trust him.  First of all, the Illuminati dislikes Gargoyles."  She paused.  "You know what Xanatos has done to us.  He's attacked us, impersonated Goliath, cloned all of you, mutated my brother--"

"...Let us come back to Castle Wyvern, helped us fight Lord Oberon, rescued us from Dr. Nexus who brainwashed Goliath to kill Egon Pax..." Brooklyn continued Elisa's sentence.  "See, Elisa.  He's done good things for us as well as bad."

Elisa shook her head.  "I'm sorry.  I'm just going crazy with all that's happened recently.  She paused.  "I...  I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Brooklyn said patting Elisa on the back comforting her.  "We're all worried...and afraid.  But, stop blaming yourself."

He stood up.  Taking a deep breath, he said, "I'm going to ask Xanatos for his help.  We need all the help we can get right now."

Back at the Eyrie Building, Xanatos sat at his desk doing paperwork when Owen Burnett walked in.  Xanatos looked up.  "What is it, Owen?"

"Sir," he said stepping aside, "Brooklyn wishes to speek with you."

Brooklyn walked through the door behind Owen and stopped in the middle of the room.  He looked back at Owen.  Xanatos stood up and said, "Thank you, Owen.  You may leave."

Owen bowed a little, turned and left.

When the door closed, Brooklyn looked back at Xanatos.  Xanatos said, "Have you thought about my offer?"

"Yes, I have."

"And...?"  Xanatos waited for Brooklyn to finish.

Brooklyn sighed but didn't slouch.  He looked like a leader.  Fearless.  Goliath was wise to choose him for a second-in-command.  "I've talked it over with my clan...what's left of it...and we would like you to help us get Hudson back."

Xanatos smiled.  "Good.  I'll start on it right away."  He hesitated.  "Thank you, Brooklyn."

"Yeah."  Brooklyn turned and, as he opened the door to leave, he turned back and said, "Just don't slip up or you'll be sorry."  He exited and closed the door behind him.

Xanatos sat down in his chair.  He picked up the phone and started pushing buttons.

"Brooklyn!"  He heard Elisa yell his name behind him down the corridor.  He turned.  "Brooklyn, I've got bad news."

Brooklyn said, "It can't be any worse than what you told me last time."  He thought of Goliath who was trapped out in space.

Elisa said, "Matt told me that the Quarrymen schemed something up recently and are getting John Castaway out of jail."

Brooklyn hung his head.  "Oh, no.  And I thought life couldn't get any worse."

Early the next night, Hudson awoke to find himself still trapped in a cage at Area 51.  From the cage next to him, Dingo said, "Good evenin', mate."

Hudson said, "I can't stand it any longer, lad.  We need to get out of here somehow."

The door opened down the hall and three men entered, one of which was Dr. Arnada.  Dr. Arnada was the one that was on Easter Island with Nokkar.  The three men looked at Hudson in the cage and one of them pulled out a small gun.  The man aimed the pistol at Hudson.  He gasped.  His eyes lit up and he drew his sword.  Dingo said, "Hey, now, wait a minute, mate."  He didn't want Hudson to be shot.

The man fired at Hudson and caught him in the chest.  Hudson fell to his knees and dropped his sword.  He grasped the tranquilizer dart and yanked it from his skin.  "What was that for?!" Dingo demanded.

"Be patient.  We'll deal with you some other time," Dr. Arnada said.  He turned to Hudson.  "We're going to take you to a different facility on the other side of Groom Lake to be tested and studied."

"Groom Lake?" Hudson asked as the tranquilizer began to work.

"It's right next to this place...Area 51."  Dr. Arnada hesitated.  "I saw one of your kind on Easter Island about two years ago.  I really big one with a deep voice."

"Goliath?!"  Hudson felt like he was going to pass out.

"Yes.  Is that his name?"  He saw Hudson begin to fall over and added, "Sweet dreams, Gargoyle."

Hudson fell to the floor unconscious.

He awoke and found himself in the back of a two ton truck.  He felt dizzy as he got to his feet. There was an Area 51 worker in the back of the truck with him.  He was holding a tranquilizer gun.  Hudson noticed a cattle prod lying next to the man.  The man aimed the tranquilizer at Hudson, ready to fire again and put him out cold.  But before he could fire, Hudson drew his sword and chopped the gun in half.  The man swore.  As he reached downward for the cattle prod, Hudson hit him over the head knocking him unconscious.  Hudson roared.

He almost lost his footing as the truck came to a stop.  His eyes lost their glow.  There was silence for a moment and then the doors to the back end of the truck opened up.  Hudson was ready to lunge at the man but stopped when he said, "No, Hudson, wait!  I'm here to help."

Hudson stared at the man.

"Hudson, I'm here to rescue you."

"Who in blazes are you?" Hudson demanded.

"The name's Billington.  David Billington.  I work at Area 51."

"What do ya mean `rescue` me, lad?"  Hudson sheathed his sword.

Billington lifted his collar to reveal a red Illuminati pin.  Hudson gasped.  "Don't worry," Billington said.  "I'm not here to capture you."

"Then what are ye here for?"  Hudson impatiently asked.

Billington said, "I'm a member of the Illuminati and working undercover at Area 51.  I give the Illuminati all the information they need from the facility."

"Yer like a spy?"

"Something like that, yes."  Billington continued.  "A man by the name of David Xanatos paid me big bucks to get you out of Area 51.  And I mean BIG.  So no one else knows of this.  Only me and Xanatos.  The Illuminati knows nothing."

Hudson exited the truck and looked around.  Desert on all sides.  "Where are we?"

"Nevada."

Billington examined the elderly, but a bit overweight, Gargoyle.  He then walked around and climbed in the cab of the truck.  He reached for the CB and spoke into it.  "This is Billington.  The Gargoyle creature escaped.  I repeat:  Escaped.  It woke up too early and we weren't ready for him."  He hesitated.  "The Gargoyle has escaped.  Billington out."  He hung up the CB transmitter and saw Hudson standing outside the driver-side door.  "Everything's taken care of."

Billington climbed out and shook hands with Hudson.  "Thank ye, lad."

"Sure," Billington responded.  "Though I'm an Illuminatus, please consider me a friend."

"Aye.  I will, lad."  Hudson smiled.  "What can you do about my friend Dingo?"

"Mr. Xanatos said nothing about him.  But I'll see what I can do.  No guarantees that I'll get him out though."

Hudson nodded in response.

Billington asked, "Can you push the truck over so it looks like I put up a fight when they get here?"

"Aye."  Hudson tried his hardest to push the truck over.  After many grunts and groans, it finally fell on it's side.  Hudson climbed on top of the truck and looked back down at Billington.  "Thanks again," he said.

Billington nodded.  "You're welcome."

Hudson jumped off the truck and glided away into the early morning darkness.

He leaned up against the black limousine and waited.  After a long while, the huge metal door opened.  The sunlight glinted off of it into the man's eyes.  Many prison guards stood in the background as a familiar-looking man walked out.  The man leaning against the car stood up and put his Quarrymen hood on.  The blonde man with a small mustache walking away from the guards moved closer to the limo and the Quarryman saw his face.  The Quarryman bowed his head a little and opened the car door.  "Hello, sir.  Glad to have you back."

A smirk slowly appeared on John Castaway's face as he said, "Thank you.  It's good to BE back."

  ......stay tuned......
