Notes:
This story is based on Disney's television series "The Gargoyles". I
myself am a huge fan. If anything fits out of place e-mail me at
kabyrne@atcon.com and report about it. If you have anything to say about
this story e-mail me. This story takes place after the Avonlon Saga where
they are off on their expedition and before the part where those people
who wanna kill the Gargoyles are in. Generally it's toward the end of
Gargoyles but before the beginning of the Goliath Chronicles. It is just
everyone back home at the castle enjoying themselfs, fighting danger.
Blah! Blah!:-O*Yawn*

A tall, slender woman walked into the living room. She had long
dark-purple hair and purple eyes. Her skin was the color of sand. She
wore a black tank-top with a low back and had spaghetti-straps that went
from her shoulders, behind her neck and were sewn together.
She also wore blue-jeans with holes in the knees.
Boxes littered the room and a couch stood in the middle of the mess.
"First day in my own home. Whoopee,"she said flatly,"Away from my
home."
She frowned and opened a box holding tons of computer paper and
loose-leaf.
She opened another holding a bunch of X-men comics. She picked up the
box and towed it to a room with a huge bookcase and computer in it.
"Can't wait until my printer arrives,"she said and she put the box on the
floor. She turned on the computer and bent down to pick up the box.
Suddenly she was hit from behind with such force that her nose started to
bleed. Blood dripped on the floor.
She was yanked by the hair up to face the intruder.
He smiled a sinister smile and yanked her by the hair outside. He tossed
her in the huge van.
*****
Brooklyn sailed over the Genutec. The wind rushed at his wings.
Suddenly something hit him from behind. He tumbled to the ground.
There he lay, motionless and unconscious.
*****
"Let me go! Damn you!"screamed the woman. Dried blood was on her
upper lip.
She was held in a cage. A rather small cage.
The man in front of her grinned mischievously.
"I'm Doctor Anton Sevarius. This is Genutec. You are lucky. Being young
you were easier to catch. Also being without parents that meant I
wouldn't have slobbering parents to worry about,"sneered the man.
"I don't care what the heck you're name is! Let me go!"screamed the
woman. She wiped her lip and the blood fell onto the floor along with the
other dried blood shed when she came.
"This will keep you quiet,"snarled Sevarius and he poked the woman with
the needle. She collapsed. She felt suddenly light-headed. She fainted.
*****
"Where's Brooklyn?"asked Lexington landing on the parapet.
"We don't know,"growled Goliath.
"We can search for the laddie in the morning,"said Hudson standing on the
parapet.
"Fine but--"started Goliath as he stuck his pose. The sun rose in the air
and all that was left was silence except for the Manhattan streets below.
Silence. Motionless. Quiet.
*****
The woman awoke again. She felt a bit better.
Sevarius was handling some vials of red liquid. She was held by rope to a
wall this time.
Sevarius turned around.
"Ah. So you're awake,"he snarled. He turned back to his work.
The woman squirmed.
"It is done,"said Sevarius. He held up a needle.
The woman winced. She looked to a window. Moonlight.
"It's Midnight,"said Sevarius walking toward her the needle poised in the
air.
He stuck her with it. She felt stronger somewhat.
"There,"he said drawing out the needle.
He walked back to the table. He placed down the needle and headed
toward another room.
Knowing this was her chance the woman broke free of the ropes.
She ran outside.
"Augghh! She's free!"screamed a voice. The woman ran into the nearest
room. A huge computer stood at one wall. As she turned around and saw
Brooklyn sitting in a cage. He was half asleep.
A bang came to the door.
She rushed to the cage. She looked for anything to open it. A button was
located on a panel beside the cage.
She pressed it and the door swung open. Brooklyn awoke and stood up. He
looked gratefully to the woman.
Another bang came to the door and the door almost opened.
The woman sighed. She opened a window.
"No way out....well for me,"said the woman looking toward the
ground,"You can probably just..."
*Whoosh*
Brooklyn picked her up and glided toward the nearest park.
"Ummn. Thanks?"asked the woman.
*****
"Can we land now?"asked the woman after about five minutes.
"Sure,"said Brooklyn. He landed in the park that had appeared below
them.
The woman stood up and sat on a bench. She felt rather weary.
"So. What you're name?"asked Brooklyn.
"It's....It's Midnight. At least everyone calls me that,"said the woman.
"I'm Brooklyn. I'm a gargoyle. Do I scare you?"asked Brooklyn.
"Well...I've never actually seen anything beyond humans and cats. I've
barely ever seen a dog. I've never seen a horse and definitely I've never
seen a gargoyle,"said Midnight. She sighed.
"You live a pretty isolated life, huh?"asked Brooklyn.
"When I was born my father was unknown and my mother died after my
birth so I was transferred to a orphanage. I lived there until now when I
finally got my own apartment--although now that guy back there'll
probably search through my home until he finds me,"said Midnight. She
groaned.
"What's wrong?"asked Brooklyn.
"He gave me this needle--it was mixed with some blood and something
else,"said Midnight.
"Should I take you to a hospital?"asked Brooklyn.
"No. It's just an migraine headache. It'll pass,"said Midnight putting
her head in her hand.
"Maybe we should try to walk you to my home,"said Brooklyn.
"Where is your home?"asked Midnight intrigued.
"Castle Wyvern on top of Xanatos's estate,"said Brooklyn.
"Him,"scowled Midnight.
"What's wrong?"asked Brooklyn.
"Nothing. It's just that--well Xanatos almost had to make my orphanage
close down,"said Midnight.
"Must have been awful. Well Midnight. What do you want? for me to fly
you to my home or walk?"asked Brooklyn.
"If it's no trouble probably flying would be fastest,"said Midnight. She
sighed.
"What?" asked Brooklyn.
"I have a terrible feeling life is never gonna be the same for me again,"
said Midnight.
*****
"Goliath you check around Genutec,"said Hudson,"I'll go with ye."
"Fine Hudson,"said Goliath. It was shortly after they had awakened.
Goliath stood on one of the parapets and got ready for the flight. Hudson
jumped off the edge and glided toward Genutec. Goliath followed. After a
while they reached it. They landed and searched around.
"Look laddie. Claw marks,"said Hudson pointing to the marks left from
gargoyle claws on a window sill.
"They must be close,"said Goliath.
"They?"asked Hudson.
"Nothing. I just have a feeling Brooklyn's going to bring home another
mutate from Genutec,"said Goliath.
*****
Brooklyn picked up Midnight and they glided past Genutec. He noticed
some gargoyles near Genutec.
"Just a sec,"said Brooklyn. He landed by Goliath.
"Brooklyn! Where have you been?!"asked Goliath.
"Can we tell you later?"asked Brooklyn. He put Midnight on the ground.
She groaned and stood up.
"What's wrong with the lass?"asked Hudson.
"Genutec gave her these needles,"said Brooklyn,"I think they used my
blood in one of the needles."
Goliath picked up Midnight. She was unconscious.
"We shall take her to the castle,"said Goliath.
Brooklyn nodded and followed Hudson toward Castle Wyvern. The
Gargoyle's home.
*****
"You okay?"asked Brooklyn. It was nearly dawn. Midnight nodded a little.
She lay on Hudson's beloved couch. Hudson sat in an armchair.
Brooklyn felt a pang of guilt.
"You know Brooklyn it's okay I mean--"started Midnight.
The pain suddenly increased.
Her back felt life rusty knifes were cutting it in half. Her knees felt
as if they were being cut off. Her feet felt as if they were growing way
too big for her shoes. Her hands felt like pins and needles. She fainted,
exhausted. When she awoke sun streamed in the window. Brooklyn, in a
stone form, stood by the couch a worried expression on his face.
Midnight got up but fell back.
She reached up with her hand to her face--but her hand now was the same
color as Brooklyn's and had four talons. Her feet were large--much like
the rest of the gargoyles-- and a lock of white hair fell on her face.
Her feet now had only three toes and one on the back of her foot. She was
a crimson color the same as Brooklyn.
She felt her forehead and two horns stuck up where her eyebrows before
stood. She sat up. This time with more strength.
She noticed that she had knees the same as Brooklyn's.
She tried to stand. She found it easier to stand on her toes much like
the rest of the gargoyles. She walked around wobble. A large clock was on
the wall.
"9:00 PM,"read Midnight.
The sun was half down. Pink clouds and a magnificent sunset stood in the
sky.
Midnight turned toward Brooklyn. He still stood there.
"What made him stone?"asked Midnight to herself. She went outside and
the gargoyles were outside all stone-cold.
The sunset was fading.
Midnight went back inside.
Suddenly stone pieces flew out from over Brooklyn. He turned toward
Midnight.
"You're a-a gargoyle?"asked Brooklyn.
*****
"As far as I know I think this'll be permanent,"said Eliza Maza later on
that evening.
"That's really reassuring. I'm stuck like this,"moaned Midnight.
"It's not really that bad,"said Broadway.
"I guess not but after being human for half of you're life it takes time
to adjust,"Midnight pointed out.
"You're right,"said Broadway staring at the ground.
"I'll never be human again. All because of that Anton guy!"moaned
Midnight.
"Midnight, are you mad at-you know-me because my DNA caused
this?"asked Brooklyn.
"Oh Brooklyn. It wasn't your fault. The only one I'm mad at is
Genutec,"said Midnight.
Her wings were folded over onto her shoulders. She stood up and stretched
them.
"Brooklyn. How do you fly?"asked Midnight.
"Never really thought of how we actually glided before. Why don't you
just try stretching out your wings and let the wind just
glide you along?"asked Brooklyn. He stood up and walked over to her.
"Wanna try?"asked Brooklyn.
Midnight nodded in agreement. Brooklyn walked over to the edge of the
castle with Midnight.
Midnight jumped off the edge and let her wings out. She headed toward
the ground headfirst but suddenly she straightened out her tail and tried
to head upward and she glided toward the sky.
Brooklyn jumped off and did the same. Midnight started to master circles
and turns.
"Brooklyn?"asked Midnight over the rush of the air.
"What?"asked Brooklyn.
"Can we go back now?"asked Midnight. Brooklyn nodded in agreement
and they glided back towards the castle. Suddenly a creature like a
lioness with wings glided up behind them.
"A-h!"screamed Midnight and ice flew from her fingers.
The creature dodged the attack.
"Sorry Maggie,"said Brooklyn,"Stop it! She's a friend!"
"Sorry,"said Midnight. Then she looked at her talons.
"DEAR GOD WHAT DID SEVARIUS DO TO ME!"she shouted out.
*****
"Midnight suits you well,"joked Maggie the cat.
"Yeah well,"said Midnight sulkingly.
Pangs of guilt.
"You didn't know,"said Brooklyn.
"Yeah but. Brooklyn! The sun!"said Midnight.
"See you next night,"said Brooklyn.
Midnight nodded.
Maggie and Midnight watched in intriguingment as the gargoyles turned
into stone.
"Free time,"said Maggie.
"Yeah,"said Midnight.
*****
The sun disappeared.
Midnight smiled to herself. The gargoyles sent pieces of stone flying.
Midnight noticed something. Brooklyn had disappeared!
*****
"Where can he be?" Midnight asked herself,"I shouldn't have left!
Genutec. They must have taken him."
"Now lass. You and Broadway can check there. The rest of us will search
the city," said Hudson.
"I agree," said Goliath.
"Okay. C'mon Broadway," said Midnight to the bald, blue gargoyle.
"Coming. Can I just take a turkey leg for on the road?" asked Broadway.
Midnight rolled her eyes as Broadway hurried into the kitchen.
He rushed back out with a huge turkey leg in his hand.
Midnight rolled her eyes again and jumped into the air. She glided into
the air.
Broadway, very slowly but surely, glided after her.
"This is going to be the lon-nn-nn-gest night," moaned Midnight.
*****
In Genutec Sevarius was pulling out a needle from Brooklyn.
Brooklyn collasped to the ground.
"My good fellow, whatever happened to that pretty lady of yours?"asked
Sevarius with a sinister smile on his face.
"I'm right here," said a voice.
Sevarius turned around to face the intruders.
"Ah. Tis the lass," said Sevarius.
"Oh puh-lease," said Midnight.
Sevarius held up a needle and aimed it at Midnight.
"Make one move and you can visit your days of ever becoming human
good-bye," said Sevarius.
"It's kiss," said Midnight," And I don't give one heck of a care."
She threw herself at Sevarius's neck. He hit her with the needle.
Pain circulated throughout her body and her back felt like it was
becoming ripped open.
When the pain left Midnight stood up and looked at her back.
Her wings had somehow grown longer.
She also noticed her colouring had changed a great deal.
The undersides of her wings had changed from dark maroon to navy. Her
hair was now brown. Her skin was a silvery white colour.
"What have you done to me?" she screamed in horror.
"I made you forever gargoyle. You'll see your other powers don's work
now," said Sevarius.
"One power you underestimated is love," said Midnight.
"Ah. Mushy stuff," said Sevarius.
Midnight roared and prounced on Sevarius. She grabbed his shirt collar.
"Mushy ain't the word, buster,"said Midnight.
Her eyes glowed a neon green.
"Death is," said Midnight.
She threw him across the room.
He crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
"Is-Is he dead?" asked Broadway.
Midnight had forgotten he was even there.
"No. But I sure wish he was," said Midnigh to Broadway," I sure wish he
was."
*****
"Midnight?"asked Brooklyn.
"What Brooklyn?"replied Midnight.
"Well you just threw away any hopes of you becoming human.
Why?"asked Brooklyn.
"I couldn't live without you gargoyles. I guess I did it because of you,"
said Midnight.
"Why me?"asked Brooklyn.
"When I first met you I was scared. After I met a whole clan of them I
loosened up. That's when I fell in love,"said Midnight.She paused,"With
you.Even if you don't love me.I still love you. That's love and my big
yapper."
"Well you know Midnight, I love you too."replied Brooklyn,"Ever since I
first lay my eyes on you."
Midnight kissed him on his beakish-mouth.
"And besides. If I had of gone back I'd probably get interviewed by every
state in this country because I disapeared.I like this better.Gargoyles
are so unlike humankind,"said Midnight.
"How so?"asked Brooklyn.
"They don't beleive in violence. That's the reason why I didn't kill
Sevarius,"said Midnight.
"Midnight?"asked Brooklyn.
"Yes?"asked Midnight.
He hugged her.Midngiht hugged him back.
"Life is never going to be the same,"said Midnight through tears.
"Why are you crying?"asked Brooklyn.
"Because I'm happy.Because I found something in life that's worth
living.Because of joy,"said Midnight.
"Oh,"said Brooklyn.
"Brooklyn?"asked Midnight.
"What?"asked Brooklyn.
"The sun's coming up.The others will be out soon,"said Midnight.
Brooklyn let her go.
They took their places side by side on the parapet.
The others came out and stood beside them.
"I'm starving?"asked Broodway.
"You just ate!"said Midnight.
"That was an hour ago,"said Broadway.
"Some thing'll never change,"said Brooklyn.
"And some do,"said Midnight.
With that the sun touched their faces and each were turned into stone.
Midnight would never see the sun again.Or would she?
