Gender: Male
First Appearance: "Awakening" Part I
The Wyvern clan's pet gargoyle beast. Bronx was hatched in the year 978, and by 994 was already fully grown (gargoyle beasts mature faster than gargoyles) and capable of helping the clan defend Castle Wyvern from the Vikings - and how. After the battle with the Vikings, Bronx, like the trio, got into a skirmish with the refugees that Tom and Mary belonged to, and was sent down to the rookery by Goliath as a punishment. This saved his life, for he was thus not killed by the Vikings during the Wyvern Massacre. However, while participating in the retaliatory attack on the Vikings' camp, he was turned to stone by the Magus, to be awakened by Xanatos a thousand years later.
Since Bronx had no wings, he did not have the opportunity to participate
as often in the clan's adventures in New York as the
regular gargoyles did, and usually had to stay behind in the castle
or clock tower (Hudson often stayed behind with
him - he found that the gargoyle beast made good company and Bronx often
enjoys snoozing beside Hudson's recliner, while Hudson himself watches
television). However, Bronx had his share of exploits in the 20th century.
He assisted Hudson in the raid on Cyberbiotics
(the two of them attacked the underground station in the subways that would
later become the home of the Mutates), and was captured, like Lexington
and Brooklyn, by MacBeth
in the adventure that forced the clan to leave Castle
Wyvern and move into the clock tower. Later on, he was also captured
(again like Lexington and Brooklyn) by the Pack, but rescued, and in the
course of that adventure gnawed enough at the face of Coyote
1.0 to expose it as a robot rather than as Xanatos (as it had
first appeared to be). It was Bronx who also, by chewing on and clawing
at the 12th-century tapestry in the great hall of Castle Wyvern, alerted
Goliath and Xanatos to Demona's presence during
the "City of Stone" incident.
Bronx accompanied Goliath and Elisa to Avalon, and from there, accompanied them and Angela during the Avalon World Tour. His most prominent adventure during that time was when he encountered Rory Dugan in Ireland, and helped lead him to his true destiny as the reincarnated Cu Chulainn.
Like his fellow clan-members, Bronx was named after a New York place-name: the Bronx (presumably because the name sounded enough like an animal's bark to fit him).
As is generally the case with gargoyle beasts (and dogs, which they resemble), Bronx's favorite activities are eating and sleeping (the latter he especially enjoys doing, usually by Hudson's recliner, but occasionally in other places - such as on Lexington's magazines while Lexington is trying to read them). But he is a fierce and formidable fighter when there is an emergency, a loyal friend, and a very good judge of character.
In Greg Weisman's Master Plan, Bronx and Boudicca would have mated.
Bronx possesses the standard abilities and traits of a gargoyle beast- claws that can dig into steel, eyes that glow white when he is angered, powerful jaws capable of crushing metal bars, and a transformation into a regenerative stone-like state under the sun.
