The shady character known as Caligo first appeared on Castle Wyvern’s doorstep in 930 C.E. There, the clan Leader (a much younger Hudson) welcomed him into the clan. For quite a while, Caligo acted like a normal gargoyle, suppressing his powers and abilities. He gained the trust more and more of the Leader, and soon became chosen for his Second. Around 960 C.E., after yet another Viking attack, Caligo led a counterattack, though without a plan, his group was ambushed, destroying the seven in his party. This caused him to use his unnatural heritage, healing with his shadow ability, then going incognito to the Leader. He banished Caligo, though he told the rest of the clan he had died in the attack.
Caligo laid low until the 15th century, where he met up and began a romance in Milan, Italy, with Demona. They were split up by the Hunter at the time, Angus Canmore. Soon after, he was involved with the incident with the Devourer.
He did not appear again until the late 20th century in Waterville, Maine, after a long search for Demona, leading from Paris, to New York, and finally Maine. There he rekindled the romance with her, though because of the incident five hundred years ago, he went in search for his son, Brooklyn. Though the meeting did not go as smoothly as planned (he was attacked not only by Brooklyn, but Arin and finally Hudson), he waited almost a century (during the Clone Wars, he disappeared again) and was able to gain an ally in his grandson, Luach.
He and his twin sister, Zanthé, are seemingly the last two immortal gargoyles, and have a deep hatred for one another.
Caligo is immortal, possessing all of the racial abilities of a gargoyle, plus the ability to "step sideways" into the Umbra, or Shadow Realm, from any shadow, not just mirrors. Unlike the Garou, however, he can manipulate and control the Shadow Realm and its extensions. He can meld into shadows and create solid tendrils of pure shadow. He has a great deal of knowledge of the supernatural.
