The Crystal Star has all the properties of the Phoenix Gate, except that it is in the shape of a star, and instead of flames, it gives off crystal blue waves.
It was first used back in the 9th century by the Archmage, who lost the Star somehow. This is why he was so frantic to get the Gate from Demona. It is possible the same being who created the Gate also created the Star.
The Star wound up in the possession of Scott Mercure, then given by him to Venus, who now holds on to it. Venus used it to save 6 Gargoyle eggs, which have now hatched, and are living with the Manhattan clan.
The Crystal Star has all the abilities of the Phoenix Gate.
