Gabriel was one of the 36 rookery eggs brought to Avalon by the Magus and Princess Katherine in their flight from Constantine. Originally from the rookery at Castle Wyvern, he bears a striking resemblence to Coldstone and Coldfire, and may be their son. He hatched in Avalon along with the rest of his brothers and sisters and formed a close bond with Angela early on. They spent their nights happy and carefree in the paradise that is Avalon until the Archmage, the Weird Sisters, MacBeth and Demona attacked the clan, hoping to drive them out, and, since the clan, including Gabriel, had little need to hone their fighting skills before then, were basically defenseless. Only through the help of Goliath and Elisa Maza were they defeated. Gabriel watched afterward as his sister, Angela, departed to journey with Goliath into the mists of Avalon.
Some time later, they returned, and Gabriel welcomed them. As they reached the palace, the Weird Sisters heralded the arrival of Lord Oberon and Queen Titania, returned after a 1001 year exile to their homeland. Oberon demanded the gargoyles leave and the clan, including Gabriel, refused. Queen Titania proposed a bargain, that Oberon's magical powers would be reduced to the level of one of his Children and that he would fight Gabriel, Angela and Goliath for the right to stay on Avalon. In the ensuing battle, Gabriel fought valiantly, but it was for naught, and the battle was only won through the ingenuity of the Queen and the wit of Tom, Elisa and Katherine, who crafted an iron bell, the ringing of which Oberon was vulnerable to. Oberon deigned to let the clan remain as the Honor Guard of Avalon, and Gabriel remains there to this day, missing his rookery sister Angela once again, as she is now living with the Manhattan Clan.
According to Greg Weisman, Gabriel's mate is his rookery sister Ophelia.
Gabriel has all the abilities and traits normally possessed by gargoyles, including claws, talons, wings that enable him to glide, eyes that glow when he is enraged, a prehensile tail, and strength significantly greater than that of the average human. He also turns into an organic stone-like substance during the day, and he regenerates at a faster rate while in this "stone sleep." He is also a good tracker and hunter, but lacks the experience as of yet to be a great warrior. Potentially, he could become a great warrior with training.
