Max Loew is the descendant of Rabbi Loew, the last person to activate the Golem up to 1995. In that year, he had a dream telling him the words that would activate the Golem to drive the threat of crimelord Tomas Brod from Prague. He also realized he was to direct the Golem's actions, so as to prevent its doing something wrong. Encouraged by his mentor, a man named Janus, Max Loew made to activate the Golem with the words, but it was stolen before he could fully activate it by Brod. At that point, he met the Avalon travellers, Goliath, Elisa Maza, Angela, and Bronx.

Soon, the Golem returned to where Janus and Max were located, under the control of Halcyon Renard, who had transferred his soul into the Golem to replace his dying body. The Renard/Golem began destroying their home, so that there wouldn't be a way to force Renard's spirit from the Golem. Max tried to stop him, but was nearly killed by him for his efforts. He was saved by Goliath, who showed Renard what he had become. Renard returned to his body, and Max directed the Golem to defeat Brod, although he had to prevent the Golem from killing the crimelord. At present, Max Loew and the Golem are protecting Prague from evil.

Max Loew is a normal human of average physical fitness. Other than being good and brave, he seems to possess no notable special skills or traits.
