History:

The Mayan Sun Amulet is an ancient artifact made with a gold body, forged into the shape of a sun, and inlaid with 4 gems of sapphire, jade, obsidian, and turquoise. The Sun Amulet, forged by Mayan priests in Guatemala, allowed the gargoyle wearers of four mystical gems to remain awake during the day with no negative effects, so as to make them better protectors.

The Amulet eventually wound up in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Hyena invaded the Museum and attempted to destroy the amulet, so as to deny its protection to the four remaining members of the Guatemala clan, Zafiro, Obsidiana, Turquesa, and Jade. She was stopped by Lexington and Broadway, who, unsure of the Amulet's importance, took it to the clock tower for safekeeping.

After the Hunter's Moon incident, the Sun Amulet was taken to Castle Wyvern, remaining in the Manhattan clan's protection.

In Greg Weisman's master plan, Zafiro would have travelled to Manhattan to regain the Amulet for his clan.

Properties:

The Mayan Sun Amulet has no active mystical powers, but it serves as the "battery" for 4 crystals intended to keep four members of the Guatemala clan from succumbing to stone sleep, while preventing any negative effects that may have.
