Pat Doyle was a candidate in the mayoral race of late 1996, who was winning on an anti-gargoyle platform. He eventually concocted a plan to guarantee his election- he would kidnap David Xanatos' son, Alexander, in disguise, then the kidnappers would demand the ransom of a gargoyle. Doyle would then capture a gargoyle, and, supposedly to help save the boy, he would deliver the ransom to the kidnappers.
The plan began without a hitch, due to Owen's being knocked unconscious before Puck could assist and the absence of everyone in the clan besides Lexington. Lexington, feeling guilty for his failure, surrendered himself to save Alex. However, Doyle's part in the kidnapping was discovered, and revealed by Xanatos after Alex was rescued by the Manhattan clan and Elisa. He was arrested, his plans as mayor shattered.
Pat Doyle was a very charismatic and shrewd man, able to play the masses with skill. He also had a fairly good force of mercenaries and security men at his disposal.
