History:

The Quarrymen are a militant anti-gargoyle hate group, formed by John Castaway (with some assistance from the Illuminati Society). Armed with the latest in weapons technology, including their fearsome Quarryman Hammers, they are a deadly threat to not only the Manhattan Clan, but all gargoyles.

The group appeared shortly after the events of the Hunter's Moon, where the existence of gargoyles was revealed to the general public. Castaway used the unreasoning fear and hatred many citizens felt toward these beings to forge them into a force devoted to their destruction. One of their first anti-gargoyle offensives involved an attack on Goliath and Elisa Maza, who had been attempting to go out on a date of sorts. They were saved, however, by Vinnie. He had joined the Quarrymen, but after seeing their methods, he had a change of heart.

In the Goliath Chronicles, the Quarrymen's activities grew more and more dangerous, to gargoyles as well as humans. They engineered a plot to discredit gargoyle attempts at public relations, by hiring Jackal and Hyena to frame Broadway with destroying portions of Los Angeles. This plot was foiled by Fox. When the PIT Crew appeared, the Quarrymen took violent steps to end their pro-gargoyle efforts. Soon afterwards, Hudson had surgery to repair his remaining good eye, which was failing him. The Quarrymen seized the opportunity, and raided the hospital in an attempt to capture him, but they were stopped by Hudson and Jeffrey Robbins.

A Quarryman was present in the crowd that was gathered in protest outside the courthouse where Goliath was on trial. A number of Quarrymen worked with the Assassin when he was hired by Demona to slay Goliath.

The most significant action of the Quarrymen was the purchase of heavy military weaponry from a third-world country. Elisa went undercover as a Quarrywoman and infiltrated their ranks, but she was caught by John Castaway himself. When the Manhattan clan made to rescue her, they were fired upon by the Quarrymen using artillery, a foolish move which got many Quarrymen, including Castaway, arrested.

However, it was not long before Castaway was free and the Quarrymen rose again. Castaway concocted a plan which nearly succeeded- he had a trap constructed in a construction site of his company, which lured the gargoyles in with the recording of a little girl's cry for help. Once there, they were trapped, and would be destroyed by a bomb when the sun rose. To make it even more effective, Castaway had a tape forged that made it appear that the explosion was a terrorist act. However, two things ruined his plan- one, Xanatos bribed the people constructing the trap to create a protective chamber for the gargoyles' stone forms to be moved into, and replaced with rubble; and two, Bronx and Angela were away from the others and 'survived.' When the Quarrymen attacked a train that was taking the two gargoyles to a holding facility to await trial for terrorism, the Manhattan clan went in to help, and stopped the Quarrymen before they could destroy the train and thus the gargoyles inside. This discredited the Quarrymen once and for all, all of whom were arrested or scattered.

In Greg Weisman's Master Plan, the Quarrymen would still exist in 2198, and blame the Gargoyles for collaborating with the Space-Spawn.
