Raven's origins are shrouded in mystery, but he, like Puck, Anansi, and Coyote, are of that breed of fay known as tricksters. He gained notoriety as a trickster figure among the American Indian tribes of the Northwest part of the North American continent.
During his 1001 year banishment from Avalon with the rest of Oberon's Children, he lived on Queen Florence Island, off the west coast of Canada, trying to corrupt the land and take it for himself. With the help of another Child of Oberon, Grandmother, the chief of the island's tribe was always able to defeat him and restore life to the land- until Natsilane became chief around 1995. Natsilane, educated in a mainlander college, did not believe in the magical reasons behind the dying land, and thus Raven was very nearly able to gain control of the island. But then, the Avalon travellers, Goliath, Elisa Maza, Angela, and Bronx, arrived. Raven appeared to the gargoyles as another gargoyles, and tried to trick them into believing Grandmother was an evil sorceress, and that the local humans had destroyed most of his clan. They were almost convinced, especially when they saw Grandmother change into a mythical being called the Thunderbird, but Angela noticed that the four other gargoyles Raven was with were only illusions. Further, Grandmother explained that she was only trying to show Natsilane a creature of legend to open his eyes, and she also explained the rest of the situation.
At that point, Raven revealed his true colors, and flew back to his volcano home. The gargoyles came to Natsilane to try to convince him to fight Raven, but believed they had failed. So, they battled Raven themselves, and he kept them at bay using his magic. However, Natsilane finally fought him, and, using a shield and magical spear, drove Raven away to parts unknown. Grandmother was then able to replenish the land, and the natural balance was restored to Queen Florence Island.
Raven next appeared at the Gathering. He is most likely still on Avalon at present.
Raven is a Child of Oberon, and thus possesses great magical abilities, able to create nearly any spell effect with a rhyme. He can naturally, without any spell, levitate, shapeshift, or teleport. His three preferred forms in shapeshifting are a raven, a raven-like gargoyle, or his normal fay form. He also seems to be able to slowly corrupt the land around himself, making it as dead. Like all Children of Oberon, he is vulnerable to iron, which can bind, weaken, or destroy him. In addition, he seems to be vulnerable to the magical weapons used by Queen Florence Island's American Indian tribe.
