Doctor Anton Sevarius is a brilliant but megalomaniacal and immoral geneticist. He initially worked for Cyberbiotics, but was persuaded to go to work at Xanatos Enterprises at some point before 1994.
After the gargoyles' awakening, he was given two assignments by Xanatos as one of the head scientists at the Xanatos subsidiary company, Gen-U-Tech. First, he was assigned to create a clone of Goliath, named Thailog. The second was to design a creature similar to a gargoyle to work for Xanatos. This led to his creating the mutates.
Around that time, he became part of Xanatos's plan to put Elisa Maza's brother, Derek, under Xanatos's control, and was made up to look older as part of it. In his aged guise, he recruited the three initial mutates, Fang, Claw, and Maggie Reed. He played along with Xanatos's plan, allowing Maggie to escape several times to attract the Manhattan clan's attention, shot Derek with the mutate mutagen, and was "killed" by being thrown into a tank of electric eels thanks supposedly to Goliath, so as to make Derek- now Talon- vengeful towards the Manhattan clan.
Afterwards, he shed his 'old man' disguise and completed the Thailog project. He was tricked by Thailog into hiring a group of commandoes to "kidnap" Thailog, and having them take him to an offshore oil rig. Thailog planned to kill his three "fathers," Goliath, Xanatos, and Sevarius, but he was defeated.
Sevarius was kidnapped by Goliath to create a cure for Talon and the mutates a short time later, and did create what he touted as a "cure," but it was more likely a placebo or poison. Talon threatened to kill him for his crimes, but Sevarius was rescued by Xanatos.
Dr. Sevarius was next sent to Loch Ness in Scotland to study the Loch Ness Monsters. To that end, he was provided with a submarine in the likeness of the Monster, and a force of Xanatos's guardsmen. While there, he captured a female Loch Ness Monster. Soon after, when the Avalon travelers arrived, he captured Angela, whom he discovered was the daughter of Goliath. He attempted to capture the male Loch Ness Monster, dubbed "Big Daddy," using a tracking device attached to the female and Angela. However, for his efforts, he and most of the Xanatos guardsmen wound up sinking to the bottom of Loch Ness in the sub, which was damaged by the two Monsters.
It is unknown how Sevarius escaped, but after that fiasco, he went to work for Thailog and Demona's corporation, Nightstone Unlimited. He was first hired to create clones of the Manhattan clan, as well as (secretly from Demona) a perfect mate for Thailog, named Delilah, created from the combined DNA of Elisa Maza and Demona.
Next, he was assigned by Demona to create a genetically engineered carrier virus, called the CV-1000.
In the Goliath Chronicles, Sevarius's full name was revealed to be Anton Bartholomew Sevarius. He broke off working for any corporations, and apparently became for hire. Sevarius was hired by Thailog to create a cure for a degenerative condition he had contracted using tissue from the Manhattan clan. This coincided with the gargoyles clones contracting the same affliction, and coming to his mansion outside the city to ask for help. He refused, saying that he needed healthy gargoyle DNA from all of the Manhattan clan to cure them. As he predicted, the clan came to Sevarius's mansion, and he got the healthy DNA Thailog needed.
Thailog burst in when it was completed, and "stole" the cure from Sevarius. Sevarius then sent the dying clones after him, but they all petrified before they got very far, again, as predicted. Further, Sevarius doublecrossed Thailog, giving him a hypo of advanced stage clone virus, which he believed Thailog injected into himself. Sevarius used the healthy gargoyle DNA he extracted from the Manhattan clan to activate the metabolism of a gargoyle clone he called Little Anton, who was cloned from the entire clan together. He used Little Anton against the Manhattan clan, but Thailog, who had faked his injection of the advanced clone virus, swooped in, helped knock down Little Anton, and tried to kill Sevarius. He was stopped by Little Anton, and Thailog soon petrified, but before that happened, he gave Goliath the vial of advanced clone virus. Goliath injected it into Little Anton to stop the clone, and the clan left, with the petrified statues of the clones, leaving a devastated Sevarius behind, as he seemed to actually care about Anton.
In the Future Tense dreamverse, Sevarius was associated with the Ultra-Pack.
Sevarius is a normal and non-athletic human. His main weapons are his high, but devious and twisted intellect and his skills in genetics.
