The Steel Clan numbered five when they originally came off the assembly line. They were made with the help of data stolen by Cyberbiotics by the gargoyles, who did not know that the data was not Xanatos's to begin with. They were back-ups, in case the gargoyles could not be counted on to work for Xanatos's best intrests. The Steel Clan were activated to do battle with the gargoyles as a test. They were steel, instead of stone. They could fly instead of glide. They were 100% obedient, but they still were destroyed. Fortunately for them, Xanatos could crank them out one after the other, modifying them as he needed. They accompanied him on his effort to find the gargoyles' home, were integral in setting the sky ablaze to thwart Demona's evil, and one even was used to attack and wound Goliath so a blood sample could be extracted. They were generally Xanatos's bodyguards and enforcers.
During Oberon's attack, Xanatos coated three of the Steel Clan with iron, to better their ability to hurt the Lord of Avalon. In addition, two of the Steel Clan accompanied Xanatos on his mission to recapture Coldstone.
In the horrific dream/prophecy Puck constructed, the heavily modified Steel Clan patrolled the skies of Manhattan, keeping a deadly vigil over the remaining inhabitants.
The Steel Clan are currently inactive, coming to life only when Xanatos needs them, most likely during an attack on Castle Wyvern. They are a very dangerous threat to anyone Xanatos sees as a foe.
The Steel Clan are modeled after the gargoyle known as Goliath. They are approximately his size and have his visage. They have the strength of machines, and computer brains. They can fly, and have extendable and retractable lasers embedded into their forearms. Their wings have a razor edge, enabling them to cut through various substances. Later, they could also send electricity along the surface of their bodies, to throw off any unwanted grapplers.
The Steel Clan of Puck's dream were modeled after Goliath with Xanatos's face grafted on, and had an immense increase in size.
For all their strengths, they are merely machines, and have no free will, and cannot act beyond their programming. They are generally defeated by use of simple ingenuity in flight and tactics.
